Mother of Three at Piano’s for Dima’s Birthday

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Ahoy friends! It’s been quite a long minute since we last were accounted for, but we are here still and in good health, thanks for asking. Mother of Three has begun work on some new recordings for the upcoming full length, tentatively titled Jreambs. We’ve also been writing some brand new tunes, and it’s been a more collaborative effort than previously. More guitar solos and echo-y sounds, less of the same part over and over, and pretty much the same amount of cowbell as before.

(EDIT: This show was canceled) To hear some or all of these new creations, you can come on down to Piano’s on Friday 10 July to see Mother of Three play at around 1030PM. It’s Dima’s birthday that night — shit will be so hot you’ll burn your lips on it. The poster below is only an indication of things to come.

Mother of Three vs. Black Taxi

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Mother of Three was invited to play with local show-boaters BLACK TAXI for a night of their residency at Piano’s in NYC. Come vote with your dollars and buy a freshly silk-screened and hand-assembled MO3 EP at the show, cuz they’ll be on sale for the first time. These minor artistic masterpieces, each individually numbered, could be yours for US$6. T-Shirts and miscellany will also be available for you super-consumers. Check out the poster for the show, made by Dima.

For full show details, click here.

Also, since we know exactly how many of you listened to the MO3 EP online at BandCamp (here), and we know how many of you actually paid to download it (let’s just say it’s not an insignificant difference), we here at Shoulder Tap Records began to wonder if pulling a Radiohead and allowing folks to pay a single copper penny to download the whole album would change those proportions. We know it’s not as simple as supply and demand in the music marketplace, but you can currently buy it for as little as US$3! If you want it for a penny, leave a comment and let us know (even anonymously).

Mother of Three pics, upcoming Heart of Darkness

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Photos from Mother of Three at Kenny’s Castaways on Nov 29 are up, taken by Nikolai Drjuchin. You can find them on flickr.com. Their EP is being mastered, and should be out by early Jan. In the meantime, Mother of Three will be performing again at the Christmas edition of Greg Barris‘s Heart of Darkness comedy show, this time as The Missle Toes. Don’t worry, the show will be funnier than that name.

Mother of Three: I smell an EP

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Mother of Three is just about done tracking and mixing songs for their upcoming four song EP. Jeremy Scott at The Civil Defense Studio in Brooklyn, NY (Vivian Girls, Taigaa!, These are Powers) has done a superb job engineering and co-producing the tracks, and we’re all very excited to put it out.

Some news about how it will be released: this release will be available as a CD (which will be available through the Shoulder Tap site) and as a digital download (which will be available at most all your favorite online retailers). However, the LP that Mother of Three is planning for release in the spring will only be available as a digital download and as a vinyl release.

We’ve thought a lot about how people get their music, and while lots of music fans still like to hold something tangible in their hands, we think that the CD is a medium that is on its way out (we personally don’t even drink enough beverages to use all our useless CDs as coasters around here). So what we’re going to do is offer a free digital download with a vinyl purchase. That way, people can buy the record (which will have nice large beautiful artwork that can be framed), if if they don’t have a record player, they can still download the songs and listen. We’re pretty excited about being one of the leaders in the music distribution revolution. We’ll have details soon.

In the meantime, Mother of Three’s upcoming EP will be put out on handmade, hand-packaged CDs (and the art will still be awesome). Keep your ears peeled.

Mother of Three: a little sample

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Mother of Three are in the studio hard working on their upcoming EP. Here is a bit of a jam that they laid down in prep for their poorly capitalized tune “On and oFF”. Who cares if it’s sloppy, it sounds like Prince’s pinkynail playing guitar for Gang of Four.

Mother of Three play Heart of Darkness

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Greg Barris is a comedian who speaks in prophecies. He knows all about the end of the world, and if you wanna get in on it, you should come watch him at his comedy show, Heart of Darkness. Dima and Yazan (edit: and Jonas too)from Mother of Three are going to be performing as the house band, playing the score to Greg’s (and other comedians’) wise words. Last Heart of Darkness had unannounced appearances from Todd Barry and Arj Barker, two of the biggest comedians in the scene in NYC. You are highly advised to come check it out.

Sat 15 Nov, 8PM at Karma (51 1st ave, 10003). $8. Details here.

Pics from the studio

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Mother of Three went into A Civil Defense recording studio this weekend to lay down tracks for their upcoming EP with Jeremy Scott behind the boards. You can see some pictures on Flickr. They put down basic tracks for four songs, and it sounds like Rick Springfield Huey Lewis going swimming with Roger Waters, with Andy Gill sitting in the lifeguard chair.

Studio Time

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Mother of Three is going into the The Civil Defense studio this weekend to begin recording a 3 or 4 song EP. Dima also created a badass poster for us.

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone that came out on Monday, and thanks to Zambri for rocking hard and warming up the crowd for real. Some pics of the show are here, thanks to Vlad Drj. We’ll put some videos and sounds up soon too. Mother of Three is going into the studio to record a few songs later in October. Also, we made some t-shirts, but we forgot to announce their sale at the show! They’ll be for sale on the Shoulder Tap site soon.
