Let's start by making this clear: we do our best work for clients who have the kind of integrity and artistic vision that inspires us.

We don't simply churn out stock compositions that fit any commercial, documentary, educational, or narrative film. We know that just because a beat is in 4/4 time doesn't mean it works with every MC's flow, and that an overdriven amp and a stomp box create two very different kinds of distortion. Our pride is in the fact that we aim to create pieces that are composed with attention to our clients' work.

We at Shoulder Tap Music strive to produce music that is cohesive, organic, and specifically tailored to fit our clients' creative needs. Our composers and producers are also musicians, the distinction being that our composers don't just fit notes into staves, and our producers don't just loop beats. We also pay detailed attention to arrangement, instrumentation, and overall execution of our recordings.

Film & Commercial scores

While we are fully capable of producing typical tear-jerking orchestral scores, our specialty is in creating highly specialized Film and Commercial Scores that are crafted from beginning to end to complement the visually and emotionally complex work of our clients.

Our ideal creative processes involve regular consultation with directors, where our work is refined after iterative, progressive conversations with clients and creative partners. Our clients know to rely on our composers' creative intuitions in coming up with the aural accompaniment to their work, whether it be an Educational or Documentary film, an experimental multimedia piece or a commercial for Widgets.

Music Production

We also offer Music Production services, where our goal is to help develop the work of recording artists. Production can mean helping the artist refine and arrange his or her material before heading to record, assisting the artist in finding and maintaining clear direction in the studio, or taking on the role of producing beats and backing tracks for rappers and electronic and hip hop artists.

Our producers are musicians who have spent years listening to and learning an enormous array of recordings — we know our styles and production techniques. While our expertise would no doubt be in Rock and Hip Hop (that's what you hear growing up in New York and Memphis), we are also well versed in many flavors of Ethnic and World Music, from Hawaiian to Middle Eastern, from Mexican to AfroPop.

We take such pride in our work and name that we've also launched a record label to put out the work of our composers and their bands. Shoulder Tap Records was created to showcase our creative minds, and what we produce when left to our own devices.
